Have The Wedding of your Dreams on a Tight Budget
Your wedding day is the one day where you can easily get carried away. And I don’t mean by the groom. It is easy to spend thousands or tens of thousands of dollars, and that is money that you could have spent on a house or paying off your school loans. Anything a bride-to-be can imagine is available to be purchased somewhere, with the wedding industry worth billions of dollars every year. But, that doesn’t mean that you have to spend a fortune to have a fabulous wedding.
Size Counts
You’ve got a notepad and pen in hand and you’ve started making the list. After writing down the names of your immediate family and closest friends, you should stop. But you don’t. You’re already up to ten pages when you stop. Not because you’re finished your list – just because you can’t remember the name of the girl you say next to back in the third grade. It isn’t that you really want to invite her, of course. But you’ve already written down her next door neighbor, and you would hate for her to be offended.
The invitation list is the first place to trim when you are planning a wedding on a budget. You don’t need to invite everyone that you know. And they aren’t going to be insulted or feel excluded. In most cases, they will simply wish you the best, and realize that you are watching your expenses. And they may be happy not to be invited. A wedding is expensive for guests as well, with new clothes, presents and babysitters to organize. If, for some reason, someone does feel offended at not being included, don’t worry too much. Either they’ll come to understand and get over it, or you were better off without them anyway.

Another way to save is to not pay retail. You may find a wedding dress and your other formal clothing available at reduced prices at a discount store. It may have always been your dream to walk into an exclusive boutique and have a bevy of seamstresses draping you in layers of satin and lace. However this is a dream that very few of us can afford.
If you are careful, you can still find a dress that makes you look and feel like a princess, but without having to pay such a hefty price. You may have to spend a little extra for tailoring, but the money you save in the end can pay for things that you really need. There is no reason you can’t use this same mentality when shopping for shoes, flowers, makeup, and all the other things on your list. Leave retail to the rich and famous.
Green is the New Black
Another way to temper your budget is to think green. Although the world of organic veggies and recycled materials is often more expensive just because they are popular, reclaimed or up-cycled items may be just the thing to keep your white wedding in the black. For example, if any of your friends or relatives have been married more than once, they probably have an attic stocked with dresses that they’ve worn only once. There’s a pretty good chance that they won’t even have any emotional attachment to the dress either. At least, not a good one. Through the expenditure of a lot less money than a new dress would cost, and the expertise of a good tailor, that recycled dress can be made to look like it was designed for you right from the start.
